Certified Nurse - Midwife  Whether it's a sage femme (wise woman) in France, a partera in Mexico, or a midwife in America, caring for women is a world wide, age old concept.A Certified Nurse-Midwife (CNM) is a Registered Nurse who has additional education and clinical training through an accredited education program and takes a national certification exam through the American College of Nurse-Midwifery. Certified Nurse-Midwives are recognized to practice in all 50 states and attend almost 10% of the births in the United States, 96% of those were in hospitals. Certified Nurse-Midwives provide prenatal, labor and delivery, post partum, gynecologic exams, and family planning to women throughout their lifetime.

Certified Nurse-Midwives believe that pregnancy and childbirth are natural and normal processes and minimize unnecessary interventions. CNM's also value the education and expertise of OB/GYN's and use consultation, collaboration and referral as needed to ensure the best and safest care for the woman and baby. One concept of nurse-midwifery is using informed choice to empower women to make the right choices for themselves and their family.Heather Caudell graduated in the Charter Class of Marcus High School in 1988, and earned her Bachelors of Science in Nursing from Texas Woman's University in 1992. She began her nursing career at Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas, Texas, and then came to work in Labor & Delivery at Medical Center of Lewisville in 1996. She completed training at the Parkland School of Nurse-Midwifery at University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas in December 2004. Heather wants to empower women to make the best decisions for their pregnancy, childbirth and gynecologic needs through teaching and education. Heather is married and has 3 sons (all born at Medical Center of Lewisville).
